January 2016 | The Dry Tortugas

One of the best things about sailing out of Stock Island Marina Village is being able to head to the Dry Tortugas for an overnight or multi-day sail. And, that’s just what we did to kick-off the 2016 sailing season and the New Year.

Knowing that the winds and weather in early January can be dicey, we were fortunate to have good conditions for our sail. The weather was warm, the skies sunny and the winds decent. And, those stars at night? It feels as though you can see forever.

Touring Fort Jefferson never gets old, no matter how many times you do it. The island is walk-able, the surrounding waters great for snorkeling or scuba diving and the good fishing means fresh catch for dinner. One can enjoy the historical tour or simply stretch out on the beach with a good book.

The Dry Tortugas sail is one of our favorites, and it was a great way to start the year.
