CAPTAIN’S LOG | JULY 25 | 72 nautical miles today in 11.5 hours.

We left the Matheson Hammock fuel dock at 0700 and turned south in Biscayne Bay. We averaged 7 kts under full sail in 12 kts from the west under sunny skies.

At 11:30 we left the Bay and entered Hawk Channel via Angelfish Creek (N border of Key  Largo). First rain with the low pressure trough dropping down IMG_2240FL peninsula hit us with 45kt winds for 5 minutes and then 30-35 for another 15 minutes before quickly subsiding to 12 again.

We were prepared and, once clear, Amy and I high fived another thrill.

Anchored this evening in Long Key bight with a half dozen others enjoying some wine and cheese while the chicken kabobs are simmering on the grill and a bit of sushi grade tuna joins the fire shortly. All is well.
