CAPTAIN’S LOG | JULY 25 | 72 nautical miles today in 11.5 hours.
We left the Matheson Hammock fuel dock at 0700 and turned south in Biscayne Bay. We averaged 7 kts under full sail in 12 kts from the west under sunny skies.
At 11:30 we left the Bay and entered Hawk Channel via Angelfish Creek (N border of Key Largo). First rain with the low pressure trough dropping down FL peninsula hit us with 45kt winds for 5 minutes and then 30-35 for another 15 minutes before quickly subsiding to 12 again.
We were prepared and, once clear, Amy and I high fived another thrill.
Anchored this evening in Long Key bight with a half dozen others enjoying some wine and cheese while the chicken kabobs are simmering on the grill and a bit of sushi grade tuna joins the fire shortly. All is well.
